CAPACITOR ENERGY (E) AND RC TIME CONSTANT
CALCULATOR


Online capacitor energy (E) and RC time constant calculator to calculate the energy (E) and time constant (RC) in a capacitor for the given voltage across it. You can determine two different values from the capacitor energy and time constant calculator, time constant (T) can be determined from the values of capacitance (C) and load resistance (R) and energy stored in a capacitor (E) can be determined by giving all three inputs: voltage (V), capacitance and load resistance.

Formula:

E = (V^2 x C) / 2
T = R x C


Where,
E =Stored Energy (Joules),
T = Time Constant (S),
V = Volatge (V) ,
C = Capacitance (uF),
R = Load Resistance (Ohms).


Example:
Calculate the stored energy and the time constant in the capacitor in which its voltage across capacitor be 50 V, capacitance of 25 ?F, and load resistance be 15 ohms.

Solution:
E = (50^2 x 25) / 2
= 0.03125 Joules
T = 15 x 25
= 0.000375 seconds
